At our shamba we have a vermiculture unit. This allows us to create fertilisers from organic wastes. Worms eat the organic waste and their cast (poo) is a fantastic balanced fertiliser.
The nutritious fertiliser adds plant nutrients to boost crops and yields.
Vermiculture enables us to return nutrients to our soil that have been removed by farming and to enhance the condition of the soils.
Organic content in soils increase nutrient and water retention. They aerate the soil which allows air to get to the roots and can reduce the impacts of erosion.
We run a 1 day training course on the benefits of vermiculture.
